I had a VERY positive experience dealing with Ray. I bought off another MZL site, a RH'd Fusil de Chasse kit from Ray. It was unbuilt, as the previous owner was too daunted by it all.

It had 42" DOM barrel, maple stock, RH lock & brass trim. I sent the lock, stock and barrel (w/ brass trim) back to him and got, in a fair-up exchange, a longer 44" barrel, steel trim and uninletted walnut stock, as FdCs would not have arrived here in New France w/ maple stocks.

I subsequently bought a Caywood LH lock from them and built it as a lefty FdC. Through it all, Ray was wonderful to deal with. I have heard from others though, that he himself doesn't build all guns he sells as finished or completed in the white.

For the DOM (drawn over mandrel) barrel I got, I did not know at that time that the octagonal portion would not be tapered. I consider that my fault. At the time I could have upgraded to a tapered barrel for some $$ extra, but did not know this - again my 1st build.

Point being, he sells a value-priced kit sold at prices less than TOW or other places. The parts are fine and completely serviceable and he WILL do what he can to accommodate your needs .... all you need to do is ask. So I guess with any source - know what YOU want and are buying ...

I purchased a fusil C a few years back. Happy with product and service. Waiting on a pistol kit from them at the moment.
