I am not sure what kind of persona exactly I will have, but I know that I want it to be a ranger/minuteman in addition to continental regular at some point. I haven't purchased my firelock yet but whatever I buy I want to save money and be able to use it for both the continental regular as well as the other persona. So here's the big question, Should I buy a large caliber fowler or should I just buy a rifle and eventually buy a charleville or bess also?

I'm certainly no expert in this area but I'd encourage you to purchase a fowler. It's a more versatile weapon from a persona perspective and if you do decide to enter the military end of things your choice of firearms will most likely be dictated by the unit you join.

Just my suggestion. Take it for what it's worth; especially coming from someone from the French side of things (LOL).

Take care and until next time...be well.

If you go both Continental and civilian, you will need two guns. I would personally wait to see which Continental unit you join and which guns they use. And by the way, Charleville was an armory which produced guns for the French military, same as St. Etienne and Mauberge. The guns themselves were knows by their model names. And there are differences between them. You would probably need a Model 1766. Or maybe a older model. I would stay away from the Model 1777 since only the French troupes would have had those during the Rev War. We got the older stuff.
