Hey all, I've been out of the loop for a few years but I'm trying to get back into reenacting. I was browsing the Fort Ticonderoga calendar of events and it hit me that there is no Grand Encampment listed for this year. Is it just a mistake on my part or is there really no big F&I event this year? Years ago that was my favorite event, and it's a real shame if they're not doing it anymore.
What happened?

I, too, am disappointed by the lack of this event this year. I have attended it annually for years. I do not know why it was taken out of the calendar, but would like to know also.

Fort Ticonderoga is taking a different direction in their programming. After the 2010 event it was decided to offer smaller, lower key events. Currently they offer many garrison weekends where forces from each of the major players (America, France & England) can re-enact what happened at the fort during their respective times there. They have also sponsored events such as the "Battle on Snowshoes" (this past March) and a recent program to commemorate Ethan Allan & Benedict Arnold's take over of the fort.

Another programmatic thing the fort is doing is to sponsor a lot of workshops on making various pieces of equipment and clothing. This seems to be pretty popular and has helped out a lot of re-enactors to gain the proper, historically correct, items they need.

All in all, the fort is still offering a lot in the way of programming. They're just coming at it from a different direction. I'd suggest you look at their calendar to see what garrison type events are being offered and see if you can get involved in one of them.

I hope that helps. Take care and until next time...Be well.

Thanks for the reply Snapper! Still disappointing because I don't live near the Fort and so I can't really come out for smaller events, but if that new approach is working well for Fort Ticonderoga it's a good thing.

May I ask why?

Personally, I like a larger amount of smaller events.
