Hello friends, I have the pattern from J.P. Ryan for a 1770's era coat, and my question is could the pattern be tweaked a bit to create an acceptable coat of an earlier period (1750's)? I know the 1770's saw coats that were a bit snugger fitting and had less voluminous skirts and rounder front edges, but I would like to make a slightly earlier coat without having to buy a new pattern if possible. I envisioned a coat made from the later pattern, but leaving off the collar and making straight and simple mariner's cuffs. Could this be done or would it be too much of a stretch? The coat would be for a civilian minister's impression. Thanks for any help you all could provide.

It would take more than tweaking..., but I think she also has an F&I period coat pattern that also includes enlisted and officer versions of military coats. It's called the "1750's Coat".
