I am wondering if pipestone that was quarried in Minnesota was used for anything besides a smoking pipe? Thank you for any help.

I have seen effigies, beads, moulds (for "trade silver" items as well as other items), and perhaps some other items currently escaping me... all made from catlinite.

At the small museum/visitor center for the Effigy Mounds Monument in NE Iowa there is a pipestone tablet with an effigy carved on it. Don't remember where exactly it was found, but it is a neat piece.
