Mes amis -
If you are into the western Great Lakes fur trade, you may way to buy a long awaited book that is finally in print. It's "Between the Waters: Tracing the Northwest Trail from Lake Superior to the Mississippi" by Larry Luukkonen. He is an avid historian of the upper Mississippi and has given many talks on artifacts, sites, and history of the area. His book covers the geography of the area, river routes and winter roads, mappng the trail, westward movement of the Ojibwa, the pathway of the voyageur, official expeditions (e.g., Zeb Pike, Schoolcraft), frontier outposts, headwaters traders, and an update into the modern era.

Living in Duluth with a cabin just off the Mississippi, this is my backyard and I can't wait to dig into the book. But I think it will be a fine addition to other folks' libraries as well.

Go to www.dovetailedpress.com and look under upcoming titles. My order is in the mail.

HEY I know Larry (though I probably wouldn't have tried spelling his last name). I did not know he was a writer. He usually comes and talks about guns at the Mille Lacs History Fest and Rendezvous, which is being held June 29- July 1 this year. If anyone wants a flier, send me your e-mail address.
